One Green Thing

28 09 2008

I think even the most resistant among us has to admit that we need to take better care of our planet. There’s a wonderful push to have every person do one thing to lower her carbon footprint. Here’s a great website full of suggestions to jump start your effort.

One Green Thing

Here’s my list, each added one thing at a time:

  • I switched to e-books.
  • Rather than buying single serve bottles of water, I bought a reusable water bottle and I fill it at the water fountain.
  • Lights off!
  • Converted all appliances to updated energy efficient models.
  • New windows in the house that are super energy efficient.
  • We take reusable bags to the grocery store, rather than getting plastic.
  • We rarely eat out. Less time in the drivethru = decreased meat consumption = decreased deforestation in S. America.
  • We recycle everything.
  • We plant several new plants/trees a year. Can’t be any greener than that.
  • We replaced our grass with bark dust/cedar chip, thus eliminating the need to mow.
  • Online bill paying.
    What’s your one thing?
